New Tendencies

A grid is drawn, upon which colored squares of the same size as the grid units are disposed randomly, that is, off register with the grid. The grid is then cut and the new units manipulated until successful pictorial resolutions are achieved.

Luminal Icons

There is no immediately manifest content in the painting, no person or object doing this or that, just a complex surface, in which different pigments and different reflectances conspire to make you feel as if touching, although all you are doing is seeing. The haptic is revealed through the optic. To view more Liminal icons visit the Instagram page: Luminal Space Gallery on Instagram
Opsis

The fascinating feature of this series of images is that the kinesis – the movement – is generated within the eye of the observer. The canvas is fixed and rigid – but its image is caused to move and to change hues by the movement of molecules and ions in and out of cells in the observer’s retinas. The communications between the retinal cones and the horizontal cells that form the first step in the pathway to the brain are challenged and modulated – excited or inhibited – by responses to specific wavelengths of light, the size of a colored area, and the juxtaposition of complementary colors. The image itself generates the shifts in the eye’s intercellular connections – and the cellular perceptions of what we know as “color.”
